The online personal check is a Nevada-only route

Nevada State Police’s personal-record service is for the subject to obtain their own Nevada criminal history or a response that no Nevada record was found. It is not a public name-search service for checking another person, and the repository cannot supply other states’ records or an FBI history through this request. An employment or licensing agency may have its own authorized workflow.

The official request page says electronic requests can only be completed from inside Nevada. Requests sent from outside the state must use the manual route. Start with that agency page and follow its electronic or manual link; do not assume that an “online background check” advertisement provides the state’s personal-record product. The agency directs sex-trafficking victims to DPS006 instead of its general electronic link.

Choose the result before you pay

  • Standard PID: a Nevada history copy or no-record response returned through a secure electronic portal.
  • Certified PID: a stamped certified history or stamped no-record response sent by USPS.
  • Notarized PID: a history with a notarized response letter, or a notarized no-record letter, sent by USPS.

Ask the receiving organization which of those forms it requires before selecting one. Online submission does not make the mailed certified and notarized products electronic. If an authorized agency has already started pre-enrollment, enter the service code it supplied in the PID application; otherwise select the appropriate personal-check type. A service code is not a substitute for following that agency’s instructions.

The publicly visible selection page does not publish a single checkout fee, a complete fingerprint workflow or a processing promise for all three options. Review the selected application’s identity, fingerprint, payment and delivery instructions before submitting. Do not transfer the manual $27 fee or its processing estimate to an online option without checking the actual application.

Prepare a complete manual packet

Complete and sign DPS006 and obtain an original FD-258 fingerprint card prepared, dated and signed by a certified technician. Include your name, birth date and place, sex, race, height, weight, hair and eye colors, signature and the required ten plain/flat impressions. Copies or previously processed cards are not accepted. Each applicant needs a separate packet. Pay exactly $27 per applicant by money order or certified check payable to the Nevada Department of Public Safety; cash and personal checks are not accepted.

Mail the packet to Department of Public Safety, Records, Communications and Compliance Division, 333 West Nye Lane, Suite 100, Carson City, NV 89706. The form estimates approximately 45 days after receipt. Incomplete or unreadable packets may be returned. Confirm the response address: confidential mail is not forwarded, and an address change requires a new DPS006.

Read a no-record response within its scope

DPS006 provides a fee-exemption certification for qualifying victims of sex trafficking seeking the specified records; read the certification carefully rather than claiming the exemption just to avoid a fee. For help choosing the route or addressing a submission problem, the division’s published general number is 775-684-6262.

Keep the response date and type with the result. A Nevada no-record letter cannot clear a person’s entire national history or replace a certified disposition from the court that handled a known case. If a recipient declines the format, ask whether it needs the certified, notarized or agency-initiated product before paying for another standard personal check.

Challenge an error with supporting records

Only the record’s subject can use Nevada’s DPS008X challenge procedure. For an accuracy challenge, complete the requestor section and statement of inaccuracy, identifying the arrest date, case number, agency and disputed charges. Attach supporting documents such as the final disposition and an original technician-completed fingerprint card, then mail them to the Criminal Records Unit at the West Nye Lane address in the instructions.

The repository verifies identity and forwards the dispute to the agency that originally recorded the information; it cannot correct another state’s history. The instructions allow up to 90 days and give 775-687-0196 for questions. They specifically warn against emailing the documents. Employment-related fingerprint challenges have additional employer/requestor sections, so follow that separate part of the form when it applies.
